Failsafe Protection and Response For Airborne Threats

CAPTURE -

One customer watching a demo of the unit remarked " Wow - that would suck your socks off" and clearly it is the power and velocity ability of the system to draw - capture -  treat large volumes of air quickly that is it's least understood aspect compared to other choices.     When a demonstration was preformed for the U.S. Secret Service in Washington D.C. the inventors rigged a smoke machine that duplicated the release of a tear gas or smoke grenade.  1500 cfm of smoke at high velocity was instantly sucked into the system with it was placed within 3 feet of the source and the outlet showed no hint of smoke or agent getting through.

The EPA requires to maintain safety for schools during asbestos removal that HEPA filters change the air four times an hour within a sealed and contained work area.    The PASS unit can change the air up to ten times an hour with full treatment for air volumes of normal sized house in just one hour.    The Inventor of this system, was EPA certified master trainer and designer for asbestos projects and found that turning or filtering the air was not enough to ensure asbestos fibers in the air were removed.  He found that air had to be push-pulled for capture and those lessons he included in the PASS design.

Have you see those air cleaners by Sharper Image that seem to claim to pull air through antistatic collection plates without any fans or moving parts?    They cite the dirty plates as proof but really what they have is an effective dust magnet and not an air cleaner as simply putting a match by the intake or exhaust and blowing it out will show no air movement at all in most cases which means the air is not being cleaned but dust collects from movement of people and devices in the home.   How about filters like Oreck which blow a balloon around?    The PASS Unit exhaust will blow a balloon across the room like a rifle shot.

CAPABILITY:   FILTERS + UV + OZONE = FAILSAFE

While most air treatment systems use filters including High Efficiency Particular Absolute (HEPA) the PASS included the proven technique of UV Light Energy in killing micro-organisms.   One can often see UV light panels in commercial kitchens or hospitals, to kill bacteria but the PASS system uses the light with a HEPA filter made of glass fibers to make a UV light panel of the entire filter creating an antibacterial grid to kill germs and infectious materials in the air passing through.

Because the needs of a hospital are different from those of a  restaurant, the HEPA filter core is a fixed component to capture all particles but two other filters can be selected and customized by the user for their specific needs.    Charcoal absorbent filters are often used to capture odors, formaldehyde, and other vapors while other combinations can be chosen for acid resistance or any other need.

Finally the ability to create OZONE gas treatment inside the system or direct the gas to selected rooms was added because Ozone has the ability to destroy or change organic compounds, fumes, and chemicals.  Ozone is created naturally in the environment by lighting storms and other processes but because of the huge dilution in outside air it never amounts to much more than the nice fresh smell after a thunder storm.   Ozone is simply three oxygen molecules which acts as an oxidizer or sanitizer much like bleach can but after twenty minutes it begins to turn into pure oxygen.  Ozone wipes out smells and odors and will render perfume, cigarette smoke, rotting odors, mold and other smells undetectable when applied by the PASS unit.  However while ozone can kill mold it will also kill house plants and even harm humans so use of this ability was always optional for those users who understand how and when to use or apply and maintain safety for occupants.

CAPACITY

The final difference between the PASS and other filter or air treatment systems is the capacity.    The core HEPA filter of the PASS weighs more than fifty pounds because it is packed with dense filter material that if unfolded and spread out would cover a basketball half court.  If you took the filter out of a home air cleaner or furnace filter it would weigh less than three pounds and the material unfolded might cover your kitchen table at best.     Like a handkerchief compared to the material in the main sail of a schooner, the more material, the more air can be treated and passed through and more capacity to collect contaminates.      Some early customers of the system had no need to replace the main HEPA filter even after five years of use.

FLEXIBLE AND CONFIGRABLE

The PASS system can be set up to suck air from one space and exhaust it into another as might be the case for smoke, asbestos, and other needs.   It can also be set up to push clean air into a space and act as a room respirator in setting up isolation or decon areas.   It can be set up in a "Washing Machine" configuration within a space to both capture and return treated air to wipe out any contamination or risk.    The unit can be added to hospital spaces and existing ventilation systems, or decon and other building systems and environment.

DURABILITY AND EASE OF USE

Because the inventor came from the rough and tumble world of firefighting the need for a solid external case that could not be damaged or bent was critical because the treatment system had to remain air tight.     The choice was made to use the same kind of steel employed in the production of outside vending machines which are almost immune to dents, damage or failure.   While more expensive, the life of the unit can easily exceed that of most cars, or household appliances.   The steel casing is further treated with special coating and paint.

Another requirement the inventors desired was easy of setup and use and the goal was to make the operation as simple as using a hair blower.    On/Off, High/Low are the primary controls for the system.    Ozone treatment on/off or timer can then be selected as needed.

CLEAR &TREAT A HOME IN 30 MINUTES

The biggest difference between this system and any other air filter or treatment system in the world is the capture and treatment volume.   If you spend a thousand dollars for the top of the line home or office air cleaner, it can only move 150cfm to 350 cfm per minute on average.    They use a small fan and would not even draw cigarette smoke in from a couple of feet away because they have no capture speed.     The PASS would draw cigarette smoke in from any point in a residential room and you feel the air being sucked past you.    At 750 CFM with special air flow openings the capture rate is better than most industrial or laboratory fume hoods.   Because it will treat so much more air the filters are huge and instead of weighing a pound or less with most home air cleaners, the PASS main filter can weigh up to fifty pounds.   That means the capacity and treatment ability is hundreds of times greater than many other choices.

In an average 2000 square foot home the PASS would capture all the air and treat it to antiseptic white room hospital isolation standards four times in less than 30 minutes.   Think of it, a house filled with smoke with no open windows or doors would be clear in a half an hour and if the choice is made to treat with ozone the smoke odor could also be gone.      Vomit, blood, skunk lose in the house, mold, and rotting garbage could all be treated in just a few minutes.   The strict  EPA standard for asbestos removal projects where clouds of carcinogen are floating in the air is to clean and change the air four times and hour with HEPA filters.    The PASS can apply even greater capture and treatment for any situation where it can be rolled in and plugged into a regular household electric socket.
