Failsafe Protection and Response For Airborne Threats

Device acts like an air-shield

Retired NY Firefighter Jim Thomsen’s hazmat expertise made him worried as he worked for a week to find survivors in the dust and rubble of Ground Zero. He knew many inhaling toxic dust might later result in another wave of suffering and death.  He became determined to find a way to make U.S. less vulnerable to airborne hazards from anthrax and other terrorism attacks On February 8th, 2008 his determination was rewarded when a patent for his Air-Shield technology was approved and assigned # 7326387 by the U.S. Patent Office.   The Portable Air Safety System (PASS) is a suitcase sized unit that can suck in and neutralize anthrax, nerve gas, ricin, dirty bomb radioactivity and much more.  Not limited to those rare events the system is used by health care and emergency services for less deadly problems like smoke, fumes, dusts, tear gas, TB etc.  The small size of the unit’s rugged steel housing on wheels can fit down an aircraft aisle or stored in a closet.     HEPA filtration, UV light, and antiseptic Ozone are combined in the device to wipe out all infectious particles allowing entire rooms to be negatively pressured to stop contamination spread.   Rather than make only military or health care version of the new PAA system is now available for schools, businesses and home use for dozens of common hazards.

For Thomsen it had been a long road which started in his early career as a firefighter/paramedic in New York.   For twenty years he had responded to emergency calls that involved smoke, fumes, gas leaks, chemical spills and other hazardous materials.  Most often even a well equipped fire department could do little for the smell of gas, odors, and fumes from spills but open windows or use fans to dilute the air instead of capturing , treating and removing the airborne problem.     He became a HAZMAT and environmental cleanup expert and taught EPA classes for a wide range of airborne hazards including asbestos, PCB's, and even radioactive materials. But engineers often went by the maxim that the solution for pollution is dilution instead of capturing the source and contaminated area and treating it.   The dilution mentality was the same tactic employed in the last century for raw sewage poured into rivers or smoke stacks spewing toxins into the air.  While we got smart with our wastewater and chemical wastes then started on emissions into the air there was little answer to localized needs and situations of acute airborne contamination.

But it was the 1995 Sarin Gas Attack in Tokyo that  demonstrated the lack of tools available for emergency crews to deal with these events that first spurred him into action.   Using technology from asbestos, hazmat, and radioactive industries he developed a system his brothers in emergency service fields could use to respond to any airborne risk

Working with co-inventor Ted Arts, a partner whom he had earlier joined in developing medical  infection control systems , they developed working models called Failsafe Air Safety System (FASS).  These could fit on a fire truck and  testing, refinement, and improvement continued over the next five years.    The units were tested against TB, Bacteria's, Tear Gas, Smoke, Asbestos, and even military nerve gas and other weapons.

While completing FDA, EPA testing and certification they placed several units into several markets for various uses including the Federal Reserve at the World Trade Center Emergency Operations Center.   On 911, those units were destroyed as Thomsen volunteered in digging out bodies for the next two weeks and suffered a back fracture.

Then the Anthrax attacks of News Rooms and the Senate Hart Building occurred just after 911 and again the Failsafe Air Safety System or FASS as it was called then was pressed into service and performed above all expectations.

Disabled, Thomsen retired to heal and his partner continued development in Tonawanda, NY later partnering with AirIso Corp. to focus first on Military, Medical and Government Markets Worldwide.   Now with the long patent process complete, the technology is made available to the general public for dozens of common and not so common situations.

WHAT IS THE  NEED FOR PASS?

Your lungs acting like cheesecloth expose 2 quarts of your blood to anything you breathe inside its sponge shaped membrane allowing any toxin inhaled to be pumped to every cell in your body in less than sixty seconds. This blood gives off C02, moisture, and warmth and in return absorbs oxygen and anything else in the air instantly.  Except for large dust every cell in your body will have what the lungs absorb arriving in seconds after you breath.

This is how most people die in fires and not from burns but from a breath or two of chemical laden smoke that paralyses their lungs.    Where cancer comes from in the modern world or autism and other new problems has been a mystery but the most vulnerable and efficient way for toxins to enter a body is through the air.  We found out too late about asbestos, lead dust, and other airborne exposures which we breathed having no immediate effect or warning of the deadly risk.   We have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, or work gloves and safety glasses, and seat belts, sunscreen but we have little we can do for the most deadly risks which we might breath.    A mask or respirator might be used for those who know of airborne hazards, but every parent knows that one kid at daycare gets sick, their child and soon they themselves will be lucky to avoid the infection.

Simply, if you have experienced airborne hazards in the past and can expect to again in the future the consideration to own this technology can protect your home, your family, your business and staff and even your customers and property.

OZONE - CLOROX CLEAN FOR AIR

Ozone is a disinfecting gas that oxidizes airborne hazards the same way Clorox wipes out bacteria on surfaces.    After twenty minutes of disinfection power Ozone turns into pure oxygen making it idea for many uses in treating food and water.  Ozone not only destroys infectious and other particles in the air, but dissolves the source of most organic odors.     Imagine using the PASS to fill a room filled with sewage and decomposing water damage and in twenty minutes return to find no trace of an odor.  From spilled milk in a car, to skunk sprays, to cooking and smoking odors, the PASS ozone treatment feature is a lifesaver.

Ozone treatment is never used for an area where people, pets or even houseplants are exposed during the treatment but only when the space is secure and safe from any occupation for the treatment period.

HOMES USES?

With all this power some might be wondering who would ever need one of these for home use?   Many families have members who suffer from severe allergies or have immune conditions that can cause not just suffering but continual medical bills.  A furnace or tabletop filter or air cleaner cannot capture the contaminated air nor leave an antiseptic atmosphere with daily treatments when the house is not occupied.    Some family members have to stay in isolation in hospitals at great expense because there was no way to offer the same protection at home.   Patients with HIV, or undergoing chemo therapy, have immune systems that can be at risk to airborne contamination.    But more simply smells from smoking, pets, cooking and other things can fill a house and permeate furniture, clothes and bedding.    A PASS can be not only useful but sometimes medically vital and may even be eligible for insurance reimbursement if medically indicated.

NEW CENTURY - NEW THREATS -

While Anthrax, Asbestos and Lead Dust caught our attention in the last century the new century has brought back superbugs like MRSA, untreatable TB, SARS, and the possible death of millions from Avian Flu.   While governments are spending billions to prepare for the virus pandemics there has been little preparation by businesses and families.    The PASS is ready for all of these new threats and offers security and durability to protect for years.

NOT IF - BUT WHEN

The decision to purchase a PASS system costing almost $5,000.00  is never based on if you will have a need for one but instead when will be the next time you know you should have it ready.   If it is your job and mandate to respond to events that include airborne hazards then not having this tool makes about as much sense as a scuba diver not having air tanks.    Simply the risk is too high for loss of life or medical costs and PR nightmares when you are charged with the safety of others whether you are a school, college, hospital, fire department or in other professions.

If you are a hotel, restaurant, or place that serves the public you know that a vandal shooting pepper spray can close your business for hours and terrorize customers in fleeing to the hospital for burning eyes and breathing troubles.     What are the costs of lost sales for the entire night of a bar or restaurant?  For you the decision is more a business decision to avoid loss, but also to prevent lawsuits, meet employee safety regulations, or keep your business clean and sanitary.

If you are a parent or run a daycare center or even have loved one's with medical conditions that risk their health, the decision is not just caring from the heart but also in wisdom in lowering risks, medical bills, and protecting your loved ones who breath toxins you would not let then drink if in the water.   Are you going through great effort to sanitize things, wash hands, inspect food and just ignore all the germs in the air that start growing in minutes after you disinfect something in your home.
